NAMPA, Idaho - Loni Evenson finished with 11 kills and 11 digs as the Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team defeated Saint Martin's University 30-28, 30-23, 30-19 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday night.
"The most difficult thing coming off an emotional win is to play well, and we played just well enough tonight," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger, referencing the Crusaders win on Thursday over league leading Western Oregon. "Tonight's win is just as significant in the regional standings as Thursday's, and I am proud of the girls for getting the job done. This gets us off on the right foot to travel cross country to Alaska."
The Crusaders, winners of four-straight, move to 8-4 in conference play and 14-6 overall. The Saints fall to 2-11 in GNAC action and 2-21 overall.
With Evenson leading the charge the Crusaders spread the ball around as Cammy Dranginis, Lindsay Forseth and Amanda Boschma each had eight kills. Kristy Wigren led the NNU defense with a match-high 19 digs and the Crusaders out blocked the Saints 11-7.
Shealun Campisi led all attackers with 19 kills and posted the games biggest double-double with 16 digs.
NNU, who hit just .169 in the victory, held the Saints to a .106 hitting percentage and forced 27 attack errors.
The Crusaders will travel to Alaska Anchorage next Thursday and Alaska Fairbanks one week from tonight for GNAC counters at both schools.
