James enters his third year coaching the Vertical and Horizontal Jumps/ Combined Event athletes at NNU. In his first two seasons at NNU he has developed 3 GNAC Conference Champions, 13 All Conference Performers, and multiple GNAC Conference point scorers. His jumpers have also broken 9 NNU school records and 1 GNAC All Time Record (Alison Silva- PV). Under his tutelage Alison Silva also qualified for the NCAA DII National Championships and placed 11th as a freshmen.
Originally from Auburn, California, James has spent the past eleven years in Idaho. He comes to NNU from Boise State University where he coached the Men’s and Women’s Pole Vaulters as well as the Multi Event Pole Vaulters. James also brings three years of high school coaching experience and three years of club coaching experience to NNU. He is a USATF Level  1 certified coach.
During his time at BSU he coached multiple Mt. West Conference point scorers. Most notably he assisted in coaching Kurt Felix to 2 Mt. West Conference Championship titles in the Heptathlon/ Decathlon, the 2012 NCAA Division I title in the Decathlon, and qualification to the 2012 London Olympics.
As an athlete, he competed at Idaho State University. James focused heavily on the pole vault while occasionally competing in the long jump, hurdles, and combined events at ISU. He was a Big Sky All Conference Pole Vaulter Outdoors in 2006. James was also a member of the 2005 and 2006 Indoor Big Sky Conference Championship Track & Field Teams.
James and his wife Jill have a newborn son, Otto, and are currently living in Boise.
