Nighthawks Stunned in Final Seconds

CARSON, Calif. - Northwest Nazarene suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final seconds of a match against CSU Dominguez Hills.

NNU started strong, firing two shots in the 2nd and 7th minutes of the game but would be unable to find the net on either chance. It only took one chance for CSUDH to find the net as Lexi Jimenez scored on their first shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

The Nighthawks continued to work as Brianna Abo took a shot in the 25th and 32nd minute but neither got NNU on the board. Northwest Nazarene found themselves with a corner kick in the 40th minute. The service found its way into the middle of the 18-yard box. Ellie Kimball found the loose ball and sent it past the keeper to tie it up. Kimball scored her first goal of the season, third of her career.

Entering the second-half all knotted up at one, the Toros had the first chance with a shot from Betsy Rayas Lopez but missed. Both teams traded chances throughout the half, but neither team was able to gain the upper hand.

NNU ramped up the pressure in the final ten minutes and had the best chance with a minute remaining. A perfect pass in the middle third found a sprinting Mylee Carver Moulton. Carver Moulton had a one-on-one with the keeper but put the ball over the bar. On the ensuing goal kick, the Toros found Alex Delgado at the half line, who won the footrace to the ball and slotted it to the back post with 40 seconds remaining to seal the win.

NNU falls to 0-2-1 overall and will look to rebound against Westminster (Utah) at home on Sept 12.
