Nighthawks Set for Road Test at CSU Dominguez Hills

NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team will travel to Carson, Calif., for a non-conference match against CSU Dominguez Hills. This is the final game of a three-game road stretch for the Nighthawks to open the season. The match will be held in Carson, Calif. at Toro Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 AM PT.

The Nighthawks

NNU enters this game with a 0-1-1 record after falling to Dominican (Calif.) 1-0 and drawing with Menlo 2-2. The Nighthawks are still searching for their first win of the season. NNU played Dominican very closely and outshot the Penguins 10-4 with six shots on goals to the Penguin's three. However, a goal in the 50th minute from a free kick gave Dominican the lead, which they never relinquished. NNU's first result of the year came in comeback fashion as they found themselves in a 2-0 hole in the first half against Menlo. Mylee Carver Moulton scored the Nighthawks' first goal of the year in the 66th minute to cut the deficit to one, and a late rally from Keira Dwinell and Lucy Bergford produced the equalizer in the 87th minute. Once again, Northwest Nazarene outshot their opponent 19-14 with nine shots on goal.

NNU has scored two goals this season, averaging 1.00 goals per game, and has given up three goals, averaging 1.50 goals per game. They have created plenty of chances with 29 total shots and 14.5 shots per game but are sitting with a shot percentage of 6.9.

Lucy Bergford and Mylee Carver Moulton are leading the Nighthawks in goals with one apiece, while Keira Dwinell leads with one assist. Alex Barrass has played every minute in goal for the Nighthawks and has totaled six saves and three goals against for a 66.7 save percentage and a 0-1-1 record.

The Toros:

CSU Dominguez Hills enters with a 102 overall record with an season opening 1-0 win over Westmont but back-to-back losses to Vanguard (2-1) and Biolo (0-2). CSUDH took down Westmont after being outshot 12-5 with only two shots on goal. A late goal from Alexis Delgado in the 82nd minute proved to be the difference.

The Toros held their own against a Vanguard team that finished fifth in the PacWest Coaches Preseason Poll. The game remained scoreless until the Lions broke through with a goal in the 49th minute from Jennifer Alvarez. Alvarez added another in the 52nd minute to make the Lions lead 2-0. CSUDH attempted a comeback with a Leilani Fortuna-Ramos goal in the 73rd minute but were unable to tie it up.

Their lst time out, the Toros fell to Biolo 2-0 as they fell behind early. A Riley Brumfield goal in the 13th minute proved to be the game winner, and Hayden Gehring sealed it with a goal in the 85th minute as CSUDH were only able to fire two shots on goal.

CSU Dominguez Hills has scored two goals this season, averaging 0.67 goals per game, and has given up four goals, 1.33 goals per game. The Toros have taken 16 shots through three games and are averaging 5.3 shots per game but are allowing 33 shots from opponents for 11.0 shots per game. Alexis Delgado and Leilani Fortuna-Ramos lead the Toros in goals with one goal each, while Cynthia Ramirez has one assist to her name.

Berlin Alcala and Marlies Nauman have split time in goal. Alcala has played in two games, starting both, and has recorded four saves without conceding a goal. Nauman has played in three games, starting one, and has given up four goals with five saves.
