NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team opened up their season with a 1-0 victory over rival College of Idaho in an exhibition match this evening.
NNU started strong as
Brianna Abo would find herself with an opportunity just four minutes into the game but missed her chance high to keep the game scoreless early. Both teams would trade shots throughout the first half forcing each keeper to make a save.
The first half would end scoreless despite multiple chance from both teams.
It didn't take long for NNU to break through as a foul in the middle third of the field gave the Nighthawks a free kick.
Nicole Lewis stepped up and sent a ball on frame that forced a save,
Lucy Bergford got her head to the rebound and put into the near post for the games only score and secured the win for the Nighthawks.
Alex Barrass recorded the shutout with three saves while College of Idaho split time in goal with Molly McCabe and Kate Pereur coming in shortly into the second half. Both keepers recorded three saves with Molly McCabe conceding the game winning goal.Â
NNU out-shot the Yotes 17-10 with 11 shots in the second half. The Nighthawks also earned eight corners but were unable to score off any.
Nicole Lewis led NNU with three shots while
Jadalynn Ramos had two.Â
NNU will host one more scrimmage later this week before traveling to San Rafael, Calif. to face Dominican (Calif.) to start regular season play.
