Nighthawks Sweep the Day with Wins Over Stanislaus State and Biola

The Northwest Nazarene Softball team put together a strong two-game showing, earning a pair of wins over Stanislaus State University and Biola University to close out the day.

Game One: NNU 4, Stanislaus State 3

The Nighthawks set the tone early in game one, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. Ava Clark opened the inning with a ground-rule double, and after moving runners into scoring position, Paisley Noyer delivered a two-RBI single to give NNU the 2-0 lead.

The pitching staff controlled the tempo through the middle innings, piling up strikeouts and stranding runners to keep Stanislaus State off the board. In the third, Jami Obringer walked and stole second before Emma Bumatay doubled to right to bring her home. Noyer followed with another RBI single to extend the advantage to 4-0.

Stanislaus State responded in the fifth with three runs on three hits, highlighted by a two-RBI double that cut the deficit to one. The Warriors threatened again in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but the Nighthawks worked out of the jam to secure the 4-3 victory.

Game Two: NNU 6, Biola 2

Biola struck first in the opening inning of game two, capitalizing on an NNU error to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles added another run in the fourth to go up 2-0.

Northwest Nazarene answered in the bottom half of the fourth. After a double from Bumatay put runners in scoring position, a Biola fielding error allowed two runs to score and tie the game at 2-2.

The Nighthawks broke it open in the fifth. A single from Riglee Peterson ignited the offense before Obringer drove in the go-ahead run with a single to center. Keana Bell followed with a two-RBI single to extend the lead, and Bumatay added another RBI knock to cap a four-run inning and push NNU ahead 6-2.

From there, the Nighthawk pitching staff shut the door. Biola was held scoreless over the final three innings, as NNU secured the 6-2 win and completed the day's sweep.
