PORTLAND, Ore. - The Great Northwest Athletic Conference has announced
Allan Huerta as this week's Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Allan Huerta was a key member of a Nighthawks team that put together an unbeaten week, going 1-0-1 with a 3-1 win over Saint Martin's on Thursday and a hard-fought draw with Western Oregon on Saturday. Huerta made impact on both ends of the field as he opened the scoring for NNU against SMU in the 30th minute. The redshirt-sophomore recorded the first goal of his career on his first shot of the season off a corner that bounced around in the box.
Huerta was also a lockdown member of that back line starting at center back and playing all 180 minutes in two games. He helped maintain a shutout against RV Western Oregon.
The Nampa native has been a force in the backline and has contributed to the top defense in the GNAC. NNU is only giving up .93 goals per game with 13 goals conceded on the year with four shutouts.Â
Northwest Nazarene will continue their home stand on Thursday and against Western Washington and Saturday against Simon Fraser before closing out the regular season with three straight road games.Â
