Nighthawks Leave It All On the Court In GNAC Quarterfinals Against No. 4 Seed WWU

LACEY, Wash.  – NNU Women's Basketball left it all on the court for their final game of the season against Western Washington on Thursday, March 6th. Going head to head with the four-seed Vikings in the first round of the GNAC Conference Tournament, the Nighthawks battled hard but fell, 82-70. 

The Nighthawks finished their season 10-8 in GNAC and 16-12 overall.


Western Washington opened strong, building up an early lead. They were able to capitalize in the paint and a three-pointer from Mason Oberg gave them the momentum. Northwest Nazarene responded with key shots, including a three-pointer from Kate Clark and a layup by Beaux Bruegman. Olivia Wikstrom controlled the boards and added a late layup to keep Western Washington ahead. The quarter ended with Western Washington leading 22-15.


After a slow start in the first quarter, Northwest Nazarene found its rhythm in the second, seizing control with a strong offensive push. Kendall Clark set the tone with an early layup, followed by Beaux Bruegman and Kate Clark knocking down back-to-back three-pointers to give NNU its first lead. Jené Wells added a jumper, and Kate Clark's second three-pointer of the quarter extended the advantage. Western Washington fought to keep pace, but NNU closed the half on top, 37-34, after a late layup by Chloe Deharo.


Northwest Nazarene battled through a back-and-forth third quarter, maintaining momentum despite Western Washington's early push. After WWU took back the lead, Kendall Clark responded with a crucial jumper to tie it up. Madeline Gebers then gave NNU the edge with a strong layup inside. The teams continued to trade baskets, with Clark and Gebers leading the charge for the Nighthawks. A late defensive stop by Jené Wells set up Gebers for a fast break layup, pushing NNU ahead, 56-55. 


In the final quarter, Western Washington regained the lead with baskets from Alyson Deaver and Demi Dykstra, pushing their advantage to as much as 12 points. NNU fought back with layups from Sadi Clemons and Madeline Gebers, but WWU would keep their lead with strong free throw shooting. Despite a strong fought battle, Western Washington maintained their advantage securing the victory, 82-70.
