How They Got Here
NNU earned the five-seed in the tournament with a 10-8 GNAC record, one game ahead of six-seed Saint Martin's and three clear of Simon Fraser, the top team that did not finish in the top six. The Nighthawks started the GNAC slate 0-2, but played those games against two of the top three seeds in Alaska Anchorage and Central Washington. NNU then rattled off six straight conference victories, including a road win over Western Washington on Jan. 9 and an impressive 75-69 victory over then-No. 6 Montana State Billings on Jan. 16. NNU went 1-4 in their first five games in February, but picked up key home victories over Saint Martin's and Western Oregon in the second-to-last week of the regular season to clinch a spot in the GNAC tournament.
GNAC Championships History
Since the inaugural GNAC Championships in 2011, NNU has appeared in nine of the 13 tournaments. In the nine appearances, NNU is 4-8 overall in tournament games. The last victory came during that 2019 tourney when they went 2-0. The other victories came in 2012 and 2013. In the most recent appearance in 2022, NNU was the four-seed and fell to five-seed Montana State Billings in the opening round.
