PORTLAND, Ore. - The GNAC announced the weekly award winners for March 10-16 on Monday afternoon, with Northwest Nazarene track & field's
Destany Herbert earning the Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Herbert landed a provisional qualifying mark in the shot put at the NNU Nighthawk Opener with a throw of 47-0.75 feet (14.34 meters) last week. That was good enough to top a field of 15 competitors in the event, and it stands as the second-longest shot put by a GNAC athlete this spring.
Herbert also won the hammer throw, posting a mark of 159-1 feet (48.50 meters). That moved her name up to No. 2 on the GNAC performance list in that event so far this year as well.
Herbert and the Nighthawks will now look to showcase their talents at the Oregon Preview this weekend, held March 21-22 in Eugene.
