BILLINGS, Mont. – Northwest Nazarene cross country took on the conference at the GNAC Championships on Saturday, with the men placing third and the women sixth among the 10 schools.
The Nighthawks men earned their third place finish with 65 points, just behind Alaska Anchorage's 58 for second place. Western Washington won the team title with 37 points.
NNU had three runners in the top 10 to earn All-GNAC honors on the men's side, with
Grady Mylander taking third with a time of 24:21.8,
Brody Kemble fifth with a time of 24:30.8, and
Ian Stockett seventh with a time of 24:33.8. Kemble's honor is the third All-GNAC performance of his career, placing seventh in 2023 and 10
th last season.
This marks just the second time since joining the GNAC that NNU has had three All-Conference performers on the men's side, joining the 2001 squad that had four finish in the top 10.
Asher Ingram was the next Nighthawk finisher, placing 18
th with a time of 24:58.2.
Micah Chi claimed the final counting spot for the Nighthawks, placing 35
th in 25:40.5.
On the women's side,
Morgan Erler earned her first All-GNAC honor for cross country with a sixth-place finish, running the race in 21:38.2. She is the first Nighthawks' women's runner to finish in the top ten at GNACs since 2016.
Hazel Kunkle was next for NNU, placing 16
th with a time of 21:50.7.
Zoey Stauffer was 34
th in 22:39.1,
McKenna Lechner 41
st in 23:14.1, and
Ella Bartlett rounded out the scoring five in 43
rd at 23:19.4.
Both the men's and women's squads will now look to make some noise at the NCAA DII West Regional meet, held on Nov. 8 in Monmouth, Oregon.
