NNU Women's Basketball Sets Record in Win Over UAF

NAMPA, Idaho – The NNU Women's Basketball team had their second home game of the weekend on Saturday, taking care of Alaska Fairbanks with an outstanding offensive performance. Setting a program record for points scored against a Division II opponent, the Nighthawks took the win with a score of 115-90.

With the win this afternoon the Nighthawks move to 1-2 in conference play and 7-5 overall. 


The Nighthawks took momentum from the start building up a comfortable lead in the first quarter. The NNU team showed off their shooting skills recording an impressive 11-20 from the floor and 4 for 8 from the three point line. This combination allowed them to finish the quarter up 29-17. As the second quarter got under way the Nighthawks continued to build on their lead until the five minute mark when the Nanooks began to turn it around. Capitalizing on the foul trouble the Nighthawks found themselves in, the UAF squad was able to cut the lead to 5. With four seconds remaining in the half Madeline Gebers hit a buzzer beater three pointer to send the Nighthawks into the locker room up, 52-41.      


The NNU team continued to perform offensively throughout the third quarter. Shooting 9 for 17 from the floor and 3 for 7 from the three point line. Adjusting from the defensive trouble the Nighthawks faced in the first half they were able to hold off the Nanooks. Feeling the pressure the UAF squad received two technical fouls in the third. The quarter ended with the NNU team up by 15. To finish out the competition NNU outmatched the Nanooks taking a comfortable victory. The Nighthawks scored over 20 points in all four quarters recording an impressive 52.6 percent from the floor and 44.8 percent from the three point line. The final score of the game was 115-90 with the Nighthawks setting a new record for points scored against a Division II opponent. 


Madeline Gebers led her team with 20 points and went 5 for 10 from the three point line followed by Kendall Clark who had 17 points.


The Nighthawks will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Bellingham, Washington to compete against Western Oregon. The game is scheduled for January 9th at 7 PM pacific time.
