LACEY, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team fought hard but fell to Saint Martin's, 79-58, on Saturday, Jan. 25. This loss brings the Nighthawks to 5-3 in GNAC play and 11-6 overall.
The Saints came out strong in the first quarter, holding the Nighthawks scoreless for four minutes. While the Nighthawks managed to get on the board, they struggled to keep pace with Saint Martin's hot offense. The Saints shot an impressive 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and 9-for-17 from the field, building a 17-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Nighthawks found their rhythm, outscoring the Saints 18-11. A last-second jumper by
Kendall Clark sent the Nighthawks into halftime trailing by 10.
As the third quarter began, the Nighthawks worked to close the gap, but back-to-back three-pointers by Saint Martin's Jade Travis pushed the lead to 19. This pattern continued throughout the quarter, with the Nighthawks finding ways to score but unable to stop the Saints' consistent answers. Heading into the final period, the Saints held a commanding 58-41 lead.
Despite a determined effort, the Nighthawks couldn't overcome the offensive firepower of Saint Martin's. The game concluded with a 79-58 victory for the Saints.
Kendall Clark led the Nighthawks with 18 points and 5 steals, while
Chloe Deharo contributed 15 points and 6 rebounds.
The Nighthawks will now hit the road again, traveling to Alaska to face Alaska Fairbanks next Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Alaska time at the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium.
