SEATTLE, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball fell to Seattle Pacific 73-71 after a fourth quarter comeback by the Falcons.
The Nighthawks are now 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the GNAC.
The Nighthawks edged the first quarter 21-16 with the help of six points from
Kendall Clark. The difference maker was an 8-0 run that lasted from the 3:26 mark to 1:28 when NNU went 4-4 from the field and gained an eight-point lead. There were no significant runs in the second quarter. After some back and forth, each team netted 17 points and NNU went into the half with a five-point lead at 38-33.
The Nighthawks went on another run in the latter part of the third quarter in which they outscored SPU 11-2. NNU grabbed their largest lead of the game during the first possession of the fourth quarter when
Emma Clark drained a three-point bucket to put the Nighthawks up 63-49. The Falcons answered by going on a 15-2 run to come within one point of NNU.
SPU gained their first lead of the game, 70-69, with 55 seconds remaining. Trailing 71-69,
Kate Clark drew a foul and went to the line for NNU. She made the two critical free-throws to tie the game at 71-71, but SPU went back down the floor to take a 73-71 lead and held on for the win.
Four different Nighthawks scored double-digit points.
Emma Clark led the team with six rebounds and
Kendall Clark led the team with three assists.
The women's next game is at home against Western Washington on Thursday, February 8
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
