Nighthawks Soar Over Falcons

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball defeated Seattle Pacific on Saturday night by a score of 63-49.

The Nighthawks are now 9-10 overall and 5-6 in GNAC play.

How it Happened

The two teams were neck at neck throughout the first quarter. SPU led 18-13 toward the end of the first quarter, but Jordan Pinson made a lay-up in the final second of the 1st quarter to cut the deficit down to 18-15.

Pinson's layup was the beginning of a 12-0 run for the Nighthawks in their quest to take the lead. During the run, Emma Clark made two back-to-back layups to take a 19-18 lead. Danika Starr had four points during the run, and Clare Eubanks had two.

SPU answered with an 11-2 run of their own that resulted in another lead change. Down by two, with under a minute remaining in the half, Eubanks made a layup in the paint to tie the game at 29 heading into half.

At the 6:08 mark in the 3rd quarter, NNU began a 13-3 run that was the beginning of them getting separation from the Falcons. Eight of the 13 points in the run came from Eubanks. The Nighthawks led 44-38 after a layup from Pinson that concluded the run. SPU salvaged two points from free-throws, but Pinson made a three-point buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter. Pinson was fouled on her three-point bucket and made her free-throw as well.

The Nighthawks maintained the lead for the entire 4th quarter. Cami Knishka made two back-to-back buzzer-beater three-pointers in the final minute of the game to secure the win for the Nighthawks with a final score of 63-49
