COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene men's golf wrapped up the 2021-22 season at the GNAC Championships on Monday and Tuesday, finishing fifth as a team.
"Yesterday the conditions were cold but the wind stayed down and made it nice," said head coach
Craig Stensgaard. "Today was another story, we got hit pretty hard with the wind and it was tough scoring. The men's team didn't finish as high as we would have liked, but I thought we played well yesterday and we did a good job of being in a good position at the start of the day today."
Cole Evarts led the Nighthawks with a top-10 finish, tying for 10th overall with a total of 222 after recording rounds of 69, 75, and 78. Evarts was the only Nighthawk to card a round below 70 with his two-under 69 in round one.
"Cole fought the conditions today and finished in the top-10, which is great," added Stensgaard. "It was fun to see him post a round in the 60's yesterday."
Lane Strand and
Tyler Joplin were next for NNU, tying for 19th with totals of 228. In his final event with the Nighthawks as the lone senior, Joplin led the team and tied for eighth overall with nine birdies over the three rounds.
Grayson Giboney finished 22nd at 231, while
Truman Gregory placed 23rd at 239.
With the GNAC Championships marking his final event as the NNUÂ Head Golf Coach,Â
Stensgaard will step away from his duties as the longest-tenured coach across any sport in Northwest Nazarene University history, wrapping up 23 years directing the golf program.
