Nighthawks Fall Short After Fourth Quarter Comeback

ARCATA, Calif.  – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball ultimately fell short to Cal Poly Humboldt, 80-78, after coming back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
 
The Nighthawks are now 6-3 overall and still 2-0 in the GNAC.
 
Cal Poly Humboldt won the first quarter battle and led by a score of 28-19 after shooting 68.8%.
 
The Nighthawks trailed by 10 points at the beginning of the second half. A three-pointer and a jumper from Jordan Pinson quickly cut the deficit in half, but NNU found themselves trailing 66-52 at the end of the third quarter.
 
CPH had their biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter; 18-points with 8:07 remaining in the game. With their backs against a wall, the Nighthawks went on a 22-5 point scoring run that was capped off by a Clare Eubanks layup to give NNU a 78-77 point lead.
 
Cal Poly Humboldt's Zyan Smith made a layup and completed the and-one free-throw with seconds remaining to give her team the lead and a win with a final score of 80-78.
 
Eubanks recorded a career high of 27 points. She shot 11 for 16 from the field and made five of her seven free-throws. Two other Nighthawks shot in the double digits. Pinson was just shy of a double-double with 19 points and a career high, nine assists. McKenna Castledine had 13 points. She sank six of seven from the field, one of which came from deep.
