DUPONT, Wash. - Northwest Nazarene men's golf wrapped up play at their season-opening invite on Saturday, finishing 10th as a team at the Saint Martin's Invitational.
The Nighthawks shot their best round of the tournament, a 295, in the final round to finish at 894. Fellow GNAC program Western Washington won the event with a total of 850, followed by Simon Fraser at 862.
"It was good to see us post our lowest round of the tournament today," said Coach Stensgaard. "Looking at the event as a whole, our first round held us back a little, so after we rebounded yesterday afternoon we played pretty solid."
Grayson Giboney was the top individual finisher for the Nighthawks, tying for 19th at 220 (+4). He was very consistent across the tournament, shooting rounds of 73, 74, and 73.
"Today my putting and approach game really helped me," Giboney said following the round.
Cole Evarts was even more consistent, managing to shoot a 74 in all three rounds to tie for 26th at 222 overall.
Lane Strand was two strokes back of him, tying for 33rd at 224.Â
Freshman
Truman Gregory (230, T-51st) and
Jack Cook (241, T-63rd) rounded out the Nighthawks' five.Â
Tyler Joplin and
Chris Palmisciano also competed as individuals for NNU.Â
The Nighthawks will have a very short turnaround before their next competition, making their way through Washington from Lacey to Bellingham for the WWU Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
