PORTLAND, Ore. - The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced the 2020-21 Men's Golf All-Conference Teams on Friday, with three members of the Northwest Nazarene program earning honors.
Grayson Giboney and
Isaac Emerson both earned Second Team nods, while
Lane Strand was named the Freshman of the Year.
This marks the first All-GNAC recognition for all three Nighthawks after helping lead NNU to its first-ever appearance as a team in the NCAA Championships.Â
Western Washington led the all-conference teams with five honors, followed by Saint Martin's with three. SMU's Tyler Fitchett was named the Player of the Year, joining four WWU athletes and a MSUB golfer on the first team.
With all four teams still to compete in the NCAA regional, Giboney is currently tenth in the conference with a 75.3 scoring average. He had one top-five finish through the five events of the spring thus far, leads the team with four rounds of par or below, and is tied with
Tyler Joplin for the low round of the season with a 70.
Emerson is just outside the top ten in the GNAC, right behind Giboney with an average round of 75.8. He has had one top-five finish and two top-ten placings during the season, including a runner-up finish at the LC State Warrior Spring Invitational.
A true freshman, Strand made his way into the Nighthawks' starting lineup late in the spring, ranking fifth on the team with a scoring average of 78.3. He fired his low round of the spring, a 71, on the final day of the GNAC Championships.
The
2020-21 NCAA West/South Central Regional, made up of eight teams apiece from each region, is set to take place on May 6-8 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., the same location as the conference championships a couple of weeks ago.Â
