PORTLAND, Ore. - On Friday, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced the 2020-21 Men's Golf All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College, with eight members of Northwest Nazarene men's golf earning the recognition.
In alphabetical order, NNU's recipients are
Micah Becker,
Michael Corkish,
Andrew Cortez,
Isaac Emerson,
Cole Evarts,
Grayson Giboney,
Tyler Joplin, and
Jared Stensgaard. Remarkably, every student-athlete on the team that was eligible qualified for the award, as the other five members of the 13-member squad are freshman.
As a team, NNU's eight honors led the conference, as Montana State Billings was second with five and Western Washington third with four.
The Nighthawks also boast two of the four three-time honorees across the GNAC, as Cortez and Joplin both have earned the award in 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21. Emerson and Stensgaard are also two-time recipients, both earning the honor last year as well.
Five of NNU's eight honorees have a GPA above 3.75, with Evarts ranking second across the conference with a 3.90 mark.
To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, presented by Barnes & Noble College, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
