PORTLAND, Ore. - On Monday afternoon, the GNAC announced the Players of the Week for April 12-18, with NNU's
Kyle Ethridge (baseball),
Alexis Montoya (women's soccer), and
Lauren Wuertz (women's track & field) earning honors.
Etheridge improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-2 win over Montana State Billings on Friday. In seven innings, Ethridge allowed two unearned runs on three hits and struck out 10. Ethridge threw 113 pitches in the outing, 71 for strikes. This is the third time this year that Ethridge has earned the Pitcher of the Week honor.
Montoya earned the Defensive Player of the Week award after anchoring an NNU defense that beat Saint Martin's twice on the road to allow the Nighthawks to improve to 10-0-0 on the season. On Thursday, Montoya had two saves in the 3-2 victory. On Saturday, Montoya earned her fifth shutout of the season in the 2-0 win. This is her third weekly honor of the season.
Wuertz received the Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor after finishing in second place in the 400 meters at the Bengal Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho, with a time of 56.68. The personal-best mark ranks No. 3 in Northwest Nazarene history.Â
