SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Northwest Nazarene softball finished off their California road trip with two more wins on Saturday, defeating No. 14 Concordia Irvine 4-0 before taking down Dominican 5-2.
With the victories, NNU improves to 22-8 on the season after going 4-2 on the week.Â
The Nighthawks jump back into conference play next weekend, traveling to Central Washington for four games on April 16 and 17.
Game One: NNU 4, CUI 0
Sidney Booth spun a gem in game one to knock off the 14th-ranked Eagles, tossing her second complete-game shutout in as many days. She allowed just one hit in the contest, walked two, and struck out five.
Booth was perfect through the first four innings before allowing the first walk in the fifth, which was immediately erased with a double play. CUI's first hit came in the sixth, and an error and another walk would load the bases with two outs to put Booth in her first real trouble. She was able to get out of it unscathed, though, as the next batter flied out to right to end the inning. A popup, lineout, and strikeout looking sealed the victory in the bottom of the seventh.
NNU got on the board right away in the top of the first, with none other than Booth picking up the first RBI on an infield single that scored
Ivy Hommel. Moments later,
Brittany Genuardi scored from third on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 2-0.
Tori Hensley added to the lead in the sixth with a solo homer to left, and it was Booth yet again in the seventh with another RBI single to score
Emma Mulligan that provided the fourth and final run.
Game Two: NNU 5, Dominican 2
Booth did it all on Saturday, driving in three of the Nighthawks' five runs in the second game, finishing the day 4-7 with five RBI to go with her gem in game one. After Genuardi scored on an error in the third inning to give NNU the lead, Booth added to it with an RBI single in the fifth to make it 2-0.Â
Ivy Hommel launched a solo homer to left in the seventh, and Booth then added two more runs with a blast to center field that scored Genuardi.
Jackie Vargas started in the circle for the Nighthawks, going four innings and allowing just one hit and no runs. Hensley then went one and a third innings, but gave up two runs in the sixth to even the score.
Gina Skinner came in and got the final two outs of the inning before pitching a perfect seventh, earning the win after NNU's three-run top of the inning.
