USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the regional award winners for the 2020-21 Division II Indoor season, and Northwest Nazarene's Colton Burr has been named the Men's Field Athlete of the Year for the West Region.

Burr, a junior from Weiser, Idaho, is ranked first regionally in the weight throw at 16.50m (54-1¾) and second regionally in the shot put at 14.00m (45-11¼).

"I am so proud of Colton," said head track & field coach Danny Bowman. "From two years ago until now, he has improved about 4.5m (15 feet) in the Weight...which is incredible. He works very hard and pushes himself to be better than he was yesterday. It has been five years since this program has won this award, so it is nice to have it back within this program and department."

That last regional award for the Nighthawks came in 2016, when Payton Lewis won his second-straight Field Athlete of the Year honor.

In both meets that Burr competed in this winter, he set new PRs in the weight throw. The second toss of 16.50m came at the BYU Cougar Collegiate Indoor Invite #3 on Feb. 18, and is the fifth-best mark all-time at NNU in the event.

Burr also received a GNAC Field Athlete of the Week honor for his efforts during the indoor season.
