NNU softball drops three games at California tournament

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene softball team lost all three of its games Friday at the Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State in California.

NNU lost 3-0 to No. 11 UC San Diego, 7-1 to Stanislaus State and 8-3 to Azusa Pacific.

"We struggled scoring runs today, which is unusual for this team," NNU coach Rich Wagner said. "We will work hard to make adjustments first thing (Saturday) morning."

In the opener, Jordan Adams allowed three runs – two earned – on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts, but the Nighthawks (16-15 overall) only managed two hits on offense in the loss.

Kylie Orr was 1-for-3 with a double and Cassidy Fifield was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Against the host Warriors, NNU committed two errors which led to four unearned runs for Rylee Thomas.

Stanislaus State scored four in the first and three more in the third.

Madison Strickler was 2-for-3, Abigail Otto had an RBI and Fifield was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the final game of the day, the Nighthawks fell behind 7-1 in the second inning and couldn't recover.

Anna Williams was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, Fifield was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Rae Young was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Brittany Genuardi drove in two runs.

The Nighthawks wrap up the Tournament of Champions with two games Saturday. NNU plays Cal State Dominguez Hills at 10 a.m. MDT and Cal State East Bay at 12:30 p.m. MDT.
