NNU softball splits with College of Idaho

| By:
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CALDWELL, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene softball split a pair of nonconference games Saturday at College of Idaho.

The Nighthawks (10-6 overall) lost the opener 2-1 before bouncing back to win the nightcap 4-3.

The games were added late after NNU's series at Simon Fraser was postponed because of snow on the field.

"Jordan (Adams) and Rylee (Thomas) pitched great today," NNU coach Rich Wagner said. "We need to make some adjustments offensively and we ran out of time in Game 1.

"There are a few detail situations defensively that we need to work on. The girls did a great job bouncing back in pressure situations. We hopefully will get outside to practice this week and dial those details going into the weekend."

The Nighthawks scored twice in the seventh in the second game to rally for the victory. Rylee Thomas threw a complete game allowing three runs – two earned – on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

In the top of the seventh, Ivy Hommel reached on a one-out error. After a ground out, Anna Williams walked and Kylie Orr singled in a run to tie the game. Brittany Genuardi then singled in the game-winning run.

Orr was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the fourth. Genuardi was 2-for-3.

In the opener, Jordan Adams took the loss, allowing two runs – one earned – on two hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Williams hit a solo home run for the lone Nighthawks run.

The Nighthawks host Central Washington for four games this weekend. The series was originally supposed to be in Ellensburg, Wash., but was moved because of snow. Central will be the home team in all four games, which will be played at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.
