ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team bounced back Saturday, defeating Stanislaus State to earn its first win.
The Nighthawks won 76-63 in a game played at Central Washington in the CCAA/GNAC Crossover.
"Obviously, I'm really happy we bounced back after (Friday) night," NNU coach
Steve Steele said. "I think we learned some lessons (Friday) night that we still need to work on with rebounding, but we did a lot of really good things tonight at times."
NNU (1-1 overall) dominated from the start, leading 29-12 after the first quarter. The Nighthawks shot 69 percent from the field in the first period, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Erin Jenkins had a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Avery Albrecht had 14 points and eight rebounds and
Marina Valles had 11 points, seven assists, seven steals and four rebounds.
"Overall, I'm happy with how quickly we're learning and improving," Steele said. "It's nice to get a split here playing two really tough teams."
The Nighthawks lost 83-80 on Friday night against Hawaii Pacific on a buzzer beater.
Jordan Pinson added 11 points and three rebounds, while
McKenna Emerson had seven points and four rebounds.
"We still look young, but that's going to happen as the year goes on because we are real young," Steele said.
NNU plays its first home game at 6 p.m. Friday against Colorado Christian.
