NAMPA, Idaho –
Kylie Orr hit her fourth home run of the young season, Brittany Genuardi added her third and the Northwest Nazarene University softball team split its home-opening doubleheader Friday with Eastern Oregon University.
The Nighthawks (6-9) won the opener 13-8 against the NAIA Division II school before dropping the nightcap 4-3.
"We hit well the first game with runners in scoring position," NNU coach
Rich Wagner said. "We still need to do a better job defensively in game-changing moments."
In the opener, Orr finished 2-for-5 with two runs, three RBIs and the homer, while Genuardi was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and a homer.
Lily Paschal added three hits and two runs scored, while
Lauren Bassett and
Anna Olson added two hits apiece.
Jordan Adams gave up three runs in four innings, striking out four to pick up the victory.
In the nightcap, Rae Young allowed four runs – three earned – in seven innings, but took the hard-luck loss.
Madison Strickler had an RBI double for NNU, while Orr and Olson each drove in runs.
"Rae Young pitched well enough to win, unfortunately we did not hit very well with runners in scoring position," Wagner said.
The two teams meet again Saturday for a doubleheader at 12 p.m. at Hallie Field.
