BURNABY, British Columbia – The Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team won its 10th consecutive game Thursday, defeating Simon Fraser 76-67 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
The Nighthawks (19-3 overall, 15-2 GNAC) outscored the Clan 29-13 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Trailing 39-36 with 8:08 left in the third quarter, the Nighthawks went on a 9-2 run to take control.
McKenna Walker made a pair of free throws, Raquel and
Danielle Jardine each made layups and
Kaitlyn Merritt capped it with a 3-pointer for a 45-41 lead.
After three points by the Clan, the Nighthawks went on a 15-2 run to blow the game open.
Merritt hit another 3-pointer,
Raquel Jardine had a three-point play,
Avery Albrecht hit a 3-pointer, Jardine and Albrecht then made layups and
Lexi Tubbs capped it with a pair of free throws.
Just like that, the Nighthawks had a 61-46 lead.
NNU remains in second place in the GNAC, trailing Alaska Anchorage by a game for first place. The Nighthawks play at Western Washington at 8 p.m. MST on Saturday. Western knocked off Central Washington 67-59 on Thursday to win for the fifth time in six games.
Tubbs scored a game-high 21 points, while Albrecht added 13 points and six rebounds. The Jardine sisters each had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Raquel had four assists.
Colette Gall finished with nine points and Merritt had seven points, four assists and three rebounds.
