NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene head track and field coach
Danny Bowman filled out his staff Tuesday, announcing the hire of assistant coach Ozie Oscar Duncan and volunteer assistant
Payton Lewis.
Duncan will be the assistant coach of throws, while Lewis will work with the pole vaulters.
Duncan was a three-time NCAA Division I All-American at the University of Idaho, the U.S. Junior National Champion in the javelin and a U.S. representative at the World Junior Championships. He was also a member of the 1999 World Championship and Pan American teams.
"This is a great institution," Duncan said. "The Christian values that they hold are just a lock and key fit for me and my family. I'm excited because I know the Treasure Valley is a talent rich area to recruit. There are so many regional advantages to being in this area. It is the perfect place at the perfect time."
Duncan has previous coaching experience at Northern Arizona University, where he coached six national qualifiers, 12 NCAA Division I regional qualifiers and 11 Big Sky Conference champions.
"I am very excited to have Coach Duncan be a part of this program," Bowman said. "He is a solid man of faith and to top it off, a very knowledgeable coach in regard to our sport. I can't wait to see how we grow as a program with him on our staff."
Duncan will get to work with
Ellie Logan, who finished third in the nation last year in the javelin.
Bowman also added 2018 NNU alum Lewis, who was a four-time national outdoor qualifier and a four-time indoor qualifier. He won the national championship in the pole vault in 2017.
