NAMPA, Idaho – Danielle and
Raquel Jardine are like walking music encyclopedias.
Spin the dial on the radio and it is almost guaranteed they know the lyrics to whatever song pumps out of the speakers.
The senior women's basketball players are known on the court for their physical post play.
Off the court, though, it is music and movies they love.
"Literally whenever we are in a van driving somewhere or going to get food, any song can come on and they know every word," fellow senior
McKenna Walker said. "They sing super loud. They are just really passionate about it."
The Jardine twins started acting on their love of music their junior year of high school when they attended their first concert, seeing One Direction at the Rose Bowl in California.
For their senior year present, their parents got them tickets to see One Direction again. This time in Seattle.
"Just being around the atmosphere and the fan base, meeting new people who are fans just like us, it is really fun," Raquel said. "We have met so many new people at the concerts and they are so friendly too."
Since those first two concerts, the twins have been on a mission to see all of their favorite artists.
They work at the Edwards 14 movie theater in Nampa and save their money to find ways to go on the road.
"It is a chance to be ourselves one night," Danielle said, "instead of worrying about things going on in our lives. It is a chance to get away from that for one night."
In the last six years, the pair has been to 10 concerts including One Direction, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Thomas Rhett and Luke Bryan.
The dream, though, is to see Justin Bieber. The pop star has a strange connection to the NNU women's basketball team.
Assistant coach
Elpidia Allen has a mild obsession with the Canadian and used her love for his music to help recruit former star
Lexi Tubbs.
"When I recruit a kid I always ask about things they like," she said. "It's not always business. We had the same Bieber connection, so it makes it easier to bond."
The Jardines, who played at Nampa High School, initially didn't want to come to NNU. They hoped to experience school outside of the Treasure Valley, but Allen's persistence paid off.
"Elpidia would contact us every day," Danielle said. "How much they cared about us is what drew us. It definitely has been a good decision — actually the greatest decision we ever made was coming here."
Danielle has played in all 81 of NNU's games and Raquel has played in 78 since their freshmen season, with Raquel being a mainstay in the starting lineup and Danielle coming off the bench.
Danielle was named to the all-GNAC second team last season after leading the conference in field goal percentage.
"I liked them in high school because of their toughness and they can rebound," Allen said. "Since they have gotten here I have seen so much growth. Their post game has developed, their free throw shooting has come a long way, and they have put in the work and gotten the coaching they needed to develop."
But it is more than just basketball for the twins. From music to movies to celebrities to picking up a teammate in need, the twins do a little bit of everything for the Nighthawks.
"I can't even imagine life without the twins," junior
Zoe Wessels said. "I think our team dynamic would be a lot different. They are just beasts. Their way of playing can't be replicated, because that is just who the twins are."
