AZUSA, Calif. – One of the strengths of the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team this season is its scoring depth.
On Saturday, the Nighthawks showed that off.
Raquel Jardine scored a season-high 19 points in a 97-64 victory against Biola at Azusa Pacific University.
"I think throughout the year we will hopefully see that – different kids having big nights," NNU coach
Steve Steele said. "That is what makes us good. It makes us tough to prepare for and tough to adjust to."
The Nighthawks (6-0 overall) have had five different leading scorers in their first six games. The undefeated start also marks the best start since the 2013-14 season when they started 7-0, though six of those games were at home. NNU finished 15-11 that season.
On Saturday,
Ellie Logan added 16 points and eight rebounds, freshman
Jordan Pinson scored a career-high 15 points and
Marina Valles had 10 and four steals.
"We did a good job staying aggressive on defense," Steele said. "They do a lot of unorthodox things playing different presses and zones. We did a good job of keeping the pace high so they couldn't get set on defense."
NNU returns to Nampa to open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, hosting Alaska at 7 p.m. Thursday and a showdown with Alaska Anchorage at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Anchorage and NNU tied for the conference title last season and played each other in the first round of the NCAA Division II national tournament.
"We're obviously not going to complain about the start," Steele said. "It is good preparation for our conference because we have to win tough games on the road and the travel is tough."
Mikayla Greens' 12 points led Biola (2-4).
