NAMPA, Idaho — Lauren Burchak didn't seem to care that Friday was the Crusaders home debut.

Instead, the Mountaineers slugger put on her own show.

Burchak spoiled Northwest Nazarene's day as she hit a pair of home runs, powering Eastern Oregon to a sweep of the Crusaders at Halle Field, 8-5 and 11-0 in five innings, in nonconference softball.

"We couldn't find a way to get Lauren Burchak out," NNU head softball coach Rich Wagner said.

"We need to do a gut-check and come back strong tomorrow," NNU's skipper added, as the Crusaders host Eastern Oregon in another doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch at noon.

Not that NNU started slow on Friday, as the Crusaders (6-9 overall) came out swinging in the twinbill.

Cassidy Fifield led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, Lily Paschal walk, and Kylie Orr added a single that loaded the bases.

Brittany Genuardi then put the Crusaders on top, 1-0, with a sacrifice fly before Shelbie Martinez singled in a run and Lisa Sylvester added an RBI fielder's choice for a 3-0 NNU advantage after one frame.

A very good start to what looked like it'd be a fun home debut.

But the Mountaineers (2-3) had other thoughts.

An Alex Shuster RBI double in the top of the second inning stalled some of the NNU momentum, then Chelsea Spanier and Burchak each added an RBI double in the top of the third, knotting the score at 3-3.

There it stayed until the top of the seventh inning when Burchak changed day with one big swing.

After Spanier doubled in a run to snap the tie, Burchak blasted a one-out grand slam over the center-field fence for a commanding 8-3 Mountaineer lead.

NNU got two back in the bottom of the seventh, one on Genuardi's second RBI sac fly of the day and another on a Sylvester RBI single, but that's where the comeback ended for the Crusaders.

NNU then looked to shake off the loss in the day's second game, but instead, Burchak set the tone with another big swing, this time launching a three-run homer over the left-field fence to put EOU up 3-0 after just a half inning.

NNU never regrouped, collecting just one hit and drawing a walk in the nightcap loss, which the Mountaineers iced with a 7-run rally in the top of the fifth inning.

Burchak finished the day 4-for-5 with nine RBIs.

Fifield led the Crusaders with a hit in each game, while Paschal, Orr, Sylvester and Madison Strickler each had two hits for NNU in the day's opener.
