NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team closed out 2017 with a 94-67 conference victory over Western Oregon University on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.
The Nighthawks (3-1 GNAC, 7-2 Overall) used a balanced offensive attack as five players reached double-figures, led by
Lexi Tubbs 16 and
Danielle Jardine with 15.Â
Colette Gall added 13 and both
McKenna Walker and
Raquel Jardine had 10.
Forcing the Wolves (1-3 GNAC, 5-5 Overall) into 23 turnovers and dishing out 17 assists of their own,
Marina Valles finished with five points, seven assists and four steals to lead the charge.
Exchanging buckets in the first quarter and leading 19-18 with 7:55 to play in the second, the Nighthawks extended the defense to force three turnovers and reel off an 11-0 run, capped by a Tubbs three-pointer that made it 30-18 with 6:23 to go in the half.
NNU would extend the lead to 40-26 at the half and lead by as many as 20 in the second half.
Tubbs also grabbed six rebounds to pace the Nighthawks, who out rebounded WOU 42-34 and were held to 39.7-percent shooting.
Sydney Azorr matched Tubbs with 16 points and Keyonna Jones added 11 for Western Oregon.
NNU will return to action next week, traveling Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's University.
