Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. – Raquel and
Danielle Jardine – junior twins for the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team – each scored 17 points Saturday to lead their team to a 96-69 victory against Cal State Monterey Bay.
Raquel had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while Danielle added 17 points and five rebounds.
"Five kids in double figures which is always good," NNU coach
Steve Steele said. "I liked our assist to turnover ratio, which was 24 to 13 … that is always good."
The Nighthawks (2-0) turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 27-point victory, which was a big difference from Friday's game where they had a 25-point halftime lead slip to single digits in the fourth quarter.
"I was happy with how we finished the game today," Steele said. We didn't let them back in the game in the second half.
"On the negative side, that second quarter we did not defend. We have to get back to playing four quarters of defense. If we can do that we'll be really, really tough."
NNU was outscored 24-19 in the second quarter.
McKenna Walker added 15 points,
Lexi Tubbs had 14 points and eight rebounds and Marina Valles finished with 10 points. Six players had at least three assists, led by
Colette Gall and
Avery Albrecht, who had four each.
NNU will stay in California and play California State University-Los Angeles at 7 p.m. MST on Wednesday and Biola University (Calif.) at 6 p.m. MST on Thursday.
