Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. – The Nighthawks soared out of the gates Friday night and then hung on for a 76-66 victory against Stanislaus State in their season opener.
Northwest Nazarene (1-0) led 42-17 at halftime and held on from there.
"The first half was some of the best basketball we have played," NNU coach
Steve Steele said. "In the second half, we put them on the line too much, but I was happy with our toughness tonight."
Avery Albrecht's 16 points and five rebounds led the Nighthawks, while
Carly Parker and
Lexi Tubbs added 12 points each.
McKenna Walker added 10 points and four assists.
"We had four players in double figures, so that is a good sign," Steele said.
NNU held Stanislaus to just four first-half field goals and 16 percent shooting.
