Big second half helps NNU run away from cross-county rivals in exhibition

| By:
Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – Sophomore Avery Albrecht scored 18 points in just 16 minutes and the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team rolled to a 101-68 victory against cross-county rival College of Idaho on Wednesday at Johnson Sports Center.

Albrecht was 7-of-12 from the field and led four players in double figures as everyone scored for the Nighthawks.

"That game means a lot to our alumni, our fans and our boosters," NNU coach Steve Steele said. "It is nice to be able to have that margin obviously."

Raquel Jardine added 16 points and six rebounds, Colette Gall and McKenna Walker had 15 points each, and Katie Merritt had nine points and seven rebounds. NNU outscored College of Idaho 50-8 on points in the paint, and outrebounded the Coyotes 53-35.

"It's a typical first game. Some really good things and some really bad things," Steele said. "The big thing for us is if we can be consistent defensively, that makes everything easier."

NNU struggled with its defense in the second quarter as College of Idaho outscored the Nighthawks 28-20. NNU led 47-38 at the break, but blew the game open in the third quarter thanks to much stronger defense.

"We should never ever give up 28 points in a quarter," Steele said. "They were on fire but we were breaking down on the simplest ways on defense. That was the only quarter I was really upset about, but they did not shoot that well in the third or fourth quarter because we got more fundamental and ran and ran and ran."

Alyssa Case's 21 points and nine rebounds led College of Idaho.
