Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. — Life on the road continued to be tough on the Crusaders as three bad minutes in Portland led to a setback.
Host Concordia surged in the final two minutes of the first half and over the opening minute of the second, building an insurmountable lead en route to a 71-60 win over Northwest Nazarene in women's Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball on Thursday night.
"It's disappointing to get out-hustled and out-worked again and to continue to perform below our capabilities," NNU head women's basketball coach
Ryan Bragdon said. "We need to figure out what kind of team we're going to be moving forward, because the lack of attention to detail continues to bite us game after game.
"Concordia played hard and like they wanted to win a basketball game tonight."
An
Ellie Logan layup helped the Crusaders (5-10 overall, 3-5 GNAC) jump up 8-5 early, and a
Taylor Simmons lay-in gave the visitors a 20-19 advantage with 2 minutes gone in the second quarter.
A
Lexi Tubbs free throw with 2 minutes until halftime had NNU down just 29-25 before the game slipped away.
The Cavaliers (4-13, 2-7) went on a 7-0 run into the locker room, a charge that continued in the second half with Concordia stretching its lead to 45-27 on a Lexi Campbell 3-pointer with just over a minute gone in the third quarter.
A
Kelli Christenson 3, a pair of Simmons' free throws and a
CoCo Gall bucket all cut the difference down to 10 points at different times during the final quarter, but NNU could get no closer.
Logan led all scorers in the game, tossing in 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds for the Crusaders, who are back in action at Western Oregon on Saturday night.
Katie Swanson added 10 points and Simmons finished with nine points in the game for NNU.
