Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif. –
Noelle Wright led the way in the circle, picking up her second win of the weekend and leading Northwest Nazarene's softball team to a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame de Namur at the Tournament of Champions hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.
Wright (5-13) struck out three batters and scattered five hits in the complete-game win, making two small NNU rallies hold up.
Kendra Day put the Crusaders (10-24 overall, 2-9 GNAC) in front 1-0 with an RBI double in the second inning, then
Whitney Carlton doubled in a run and later scored in the sixth inning for a 3-0 lead.
Kayla Sevier added a 3-for-3 effort at the plate in the win for NNU, which later fell 11-4 to Dominican to wrap up play in the tournament.
Sevier got the Crusaders off to a strong start in their second game, though, tripling and driving in a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before a two-run triple by
Megan Lounsbury later in the same inning put NNU on top 4-1.
NNU's offense couldn't muster anything else, though, as the Penguins rallied for two runs in the second and took the lead for good with a five-run rally in the fourth.
Lounsbury led the Crusader offense with a pair of hits against Dominican.
NNU now returns to GNAC play next weekend as the Crusaders visit Montana State Billings for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday.
