NAMPA, Idaho – Ten strikeouts in a complete-game win earned Northwest Nazarene's
Aaron Vaughn the Red Lion Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week award in baseball, as announced by the league Monday.
The senior right-hander from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy in Tucson, Ariz., earned a 7-3 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference baseball doubleheader on Friday.
Vaughn (1-0) scattered six hits, gave up just two earned runs and walked just one batter in the seven-inning win for the Crusaders (1-8). The win was the first at NNU for new Crusader head baseball coach
Rocke Musgraves.
The award is the second this season for NNU's pitching staff as reliever Aaron Groves earned Pitcher of the Week honors last week.
NNU returns to the field Friday to host Prairie Baseball Academy in an exhibition doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., then plays its official home opener on Monday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m., when Hawaii Hilo visits Nampa, Idaho for a nonconference doubleheader.
