Crusader Softball at the Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif.- In day one of the tournament of champions held by Cal State Stanislaus, the Northwest Nazarene University softball team dropped game one 0-2 against Cal Baptist. In the second game for NNU, the team lost 1-10 when they faced Dominican University, and fell 1-5  in their final game against the University of Hawaii Hilo.

In game one, with the score tied 0-0 after the scheduled seven innings, the teams headed into extra innings. Cal Baptist was able to drive in two runs in the top of the eighth. The Crusaders were unable to respond in the second half of the inning and fell in the opening game of the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, California.

Kendra Day and Brianna Kinghorn both had two hits for NNU.

In the Crusaders' second game of the day, NNU was able to get on the board first in the top of the first when Michelle Crumbaker drove in Kendra Day to put the team up 1-0. Dominican University would respond, earning 10 runs in the first four innings of play to pull ahead and get the 10-1 victory after 5 innings of play.

Crumbaker was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI in game two.

Hawaii Hilo was up 2-1 after six innings of play in the Crusaders' final game of day one. The Vulcans would score three runs in the final inning to pull ahead 5-1. NNU was unable to score in the bottom of the inning, dropping to 5-31 on the year.

Noelle Wright pitched 17 innings in the circle today for the Crusaders, falling to 5-26 on the season.

The Crusaders will be back in action at the Tournament of Champions tomorrow when they face Grand Canyon University at 8:00 a.m. followed by their final game at 10:00 a.m. against Chaminade University in Turlock, California.
