NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene and Western Washington University softball teams each claimed 5-3 victories this afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at Halle Field in Nampa.

The Crusaders (5-17, 5-13 GNAC) claimed game one 5-3 as Elizabeth Beaty went 2 for 2 with two doubles and three RBI's.  Baylee Jolliffe plated what would be the game-winning run in the fifth with a two-out single that scored Beaty.  Chelsey Anderson followed Jolliffe with another RBI single to add an insurance run.

Cara Duckworth (3-8) earned the win in the circle and Jenna DeRosier (2-8) took the loss for the Vikings.  Duckworth scattered seven hits, six singles and a double by Kaleigh Keating.

The Vikings (5-19, 3-11 GNAC) scored two in the third as both Meghan Carrillo and Kristen Allen produced RBI singles and added one run in the seventh when Keating doubled, moved to third on a fly ball out to center field and scored on a wild pitch.

Western Washington came back to win game two 5-3 after the Crusaders opened with three runs in the first inning.

The Crusaders led-off the bottom of the first with back to back singles by Duckworth and Emily Renfrow, who both scored on a Brianna Kinghorn two-run single to right field.  Jolliffe followed Kinghorn with another RBI single, scoring Beaty who had reached after being hit by a pitch.

Western Washington answered with four in the fourth, taking advantage of three hits, three walks and a costly fielding error.  The Vikings added an insurance run of their own in the fifth, a solo home run by Krista Bickar, her third of the year.

Both Duckworth and Arielle Chao finished 3 for 4 to lead the Crusaders at the plate as NNU out-hit the Vikings 9-7.

Chelsey Anderson (1-7) took the loss and Stephanie Fox (2-3) earned the win.

The Crusaders will be back in action next weekend at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, Calif.  NNU will play five games, beginning against Chico State on Friday morning at 8:45 a.m.
