NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene softball team split a conference doubleheader with Western Washington University this afternoon, falling 10-9 in game one but bouncing back to win the nightcap 12-11 at Halle Field in Nampa.
The game two victory ended a nine-game slide and moved the Crusaders to 4-16 overall and 4-12 in league games. Western Washington stopped a four-game losing streak with the opening win and are now 4-18 overall and 2-10 in conference games.
NNU's
Krista Olson (1-2) earned her first collegiate win in game two, a complete-game effort, but also took the loss in the opener in relief of Crusader starter
Cara Duckworth.
WWU's Jenna DeRosier (2-7) earned the opening game win and Janelle Kasch (0-6) took the game two loss.
Baylee Jolliffe led the Crusaders at the plate, finishing the twinbill 3 for 8 with six RBI's. Five of Jolliffe's RBI's game on a pair of triples, one in each game.
Arielle Chao went 4 for 9 with two RBI's and both
Elizabeth Beaty and
Brianna Kinghorn hit home runs. Beaty smacked her sixth in game one and Kinghorn her first in game two.
Western Washington's Meghan Carrillo, Jackie Rothenberger and Kristen Allen each finished with four hits and Amanda Flores hit her second home run of the season in game one.
The teams will return tomorrow at Noon to complete the four-game GNAC series.
