FRESNO, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team defeated Fresno Pacific 80-67 in tonight's non-conference match-up in Fresno, California.
The Crusaders used a balanced team effort to take down the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific.
Chelsie Luke led the Crusaders with 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. Off the bench,
Veronika Skokankova added 16 points and 8 rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
“We came out very focused in the first half,” commented head coach
Kelli Lindley, “the girls did a great job on the defensive end. Veronika (Skokankova) was a big spark for us off the bench tonight.”
Junior
Megan Hingston posted another double-double on the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Kylee Schierman added 10 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Freshman
Ellen Ferrenburg was perfect from the field, shooting 5 of 5 and chipping in 10 points for the Crusaders.
Keairra White's 40 points led the Sunbirds. White was 15 of 26 from the field and 5 of 7 from the foul line. Kayla Clement added 11 points for Fresno Pacific. The Sunbirds were able to hit 11 of 29 three-point attempts.
The Crusaders shot 48.6-percent (35 of 72) from the field and 77.9-percent (7-9) from the charity stripe. The Sunbirds were 31.1-percent (23-74) from the floor and 55.6-percent (10-18) from the foul line.
Both teams will face off again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in Fresno, California. The Crusaders will then travel to Caldwell, Idaho next Tuesday to face The College of Idaho at 7:00 p.m. at the J.A. Albertsons Activities Center.
