Crusaders Defeat Nanooks to Split on The Weekend

Fairbanks, Alaska - The Northwest Nazarene University Crusaders earned their sixth conference win in defeating the University of Alaska Fairbanks 83-56 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon at the Patty Center in Fairbanks.

The Crusaders used an early 10-0 run in the first half (24-12, 11:37) to open up the game and get them to a 15 point lead at the break at 41-26. NNU maintained the momentum going into the second period of action and jumped the lead up to 33 at 83-50 with 1:43 left of play.

NNU was led by Briaunna King with 21 points and 12 rebounds. That gives King her 11th double-double of the year and fourth in her last five games. King was supported by Chelsie Luke and Megan Hingston.  Luke netted 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Crusaders while Hingston added 19 and controlled nine rebounds on the night.
 
The Nanooks had three players in double-figures as Autumn Greene, Benissa Bulaya and Taylor Altenburg each scored 12 points. Alaska Fairbanks falls to 6-15 and 2-9 in the GNAC.

The Crusaders out rebounded the Nanooks 52 to 38 and took advantage of the offensive glass, scoring 25 points on second chance opportunities.

NNU forced 27 turnovers and scored 32 points on the take-aways. The Crusaders shot 41-percent (31 of 74) from the field and held UAF to 17 of 65 (26.2-percent) from the floor.

After splitting games on the road this weekend the Crusaders move to 12-7 overall and 6-5 in GNAC play.

NNU will travel to Ellensburg to face Central Washinton next Saturday at 7 p.m. and will return back to home action on February 9th to host Seattle Pacific.
