NAMPA, Idaho - Seniors Erika Quint of Western Washington and Nicole Grummons of Northwest Nazarene waged a pitching duel on Thursday afternoon at Halle Field in Nampa.

Quint (24-5) tossed a one-hit shutout to earn the Vikings a 1-0 victory, while Grummons (9-16) scattered six in allowing just one run.  Quint struck-out 14 against four walks.

The Crusaders fall to 17-28 overall and 16-17 in league play while the league-leading and 20th-ranked Vikings improve to 32-12 and 20-9 in conference action.

Rain in Nampa forced the scheduled doubleheader to be reduced to just one game.

The Crusaders lone hit came on a Cara Duckworth bunt single in the third inning and the Vikings plated the game's only run in the sixth when pinch-hitter Melissa Becker doubled into left center and then scored after a Jordan Emmil single moved her to third and Karli Baumgartner's sacrifice fly to left field brought her home.

NNU threatened in the seventh, placing the game-winning run at first, as Chelsea Allsbrook walked and pinch-hitter Kristin Refsland reached on a fielding error, but Quint responded with a strikeout against pinch-hitter Chelsey Anderson and delivered a ground ball out against Emily Renfrow to end the game.

The Crusaders will close out the 2011 season on Saturday afternoon at Montana State Billings.
