Game One
Game Two
NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene and Simon Fraser University softball teams traded one-run victories on Tuesday afternoon in a GNAC doubleheader at Halle Field in Nampa. The Clan defeated the Crusaders 5-4 in the opener but NNU rebounded to win game two 4-3 in 10 innings.
Each team scored unearned runs in the final inning to win their respective games.
SFU's Lauren Mew plated Trisha Bouchard with an RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the Clan their 10th win of the season in game one, 5-4. Bouchard had reached second base on a fielding error to lead off the inning.
In the nightcap
Catherine Lowery's sacrifice bunt to move
Arielle Chao from second to third resulted in the win for NNU. SFU third baseman Carly Lepoultre's throw to retire Lowery at first sailed wide, allowing Chao to score the game winner. Chao started the inning on second base due to the International Tie Breaker rule for softball.
The Crusaders improve to 17-27 overall and an even 16-16 in GNAC play, while Simon Fraser is now 10-19-1 overall and 10-15-1 in league games.
Sarah Varady and
Cara Duckworth led the Crusaders in the opener as Varady was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Duckworth finished 2 for 3 with a triple, double, and one RBI.
Duckworth was the only Crusader with multiple hits in game two, going 2 for 4 with one RBI.
The Crusaders will play their final home games of the season on Thursday afternoon, hosting Western Washington University at 3:00 p.m. at Halle Field.
