Crusaders open play at Mizuno TOC

TURLOCK, Calif. - The Northwest Nazarene softball team opened play at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 against Dixie State College of Utah, 7-4 against Notre Dame de Namur and 7-2 against Hawaii Hilo.
 
NNU 0 vs. Dixie State 4
Haley Hevern and Liz Beaty each singled for the Crusaders two hits as Dixie State out hit NNU 6 to 2 in grabbing a 4-0 win.  Chelsey Anderson (6-5) took the loss for the Crusaders as the Red Storm scored three in the third and one in the seventh.

NNU 4 vs. NDNU 7
Liz Beaty hit her sixth home run of the season, a three-run blast in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Crusaders fell 7-4 against Notre Dame de Namur.  Arielle Chao went 3 for 4 and Nicole Grummons was 2 for 3.  Grummons (4-10) took the loss in the circle.

NNU 2 vs. Hawaii Hilo 7
Hawaii Hilo improved to 16-7 overall in a 7-2 defeat of the Crusaders in the final game of a tripleheader to open the Mizuno Tournament of Champions on Friday in Turlock, Calif.  Arielle Chao finished 2 for 4 as the Crusaders scored an unearned run in the first and Haley Hevern plated Liz Beaty in the fourth with a sacrifice fly.  Cara Duckworth (0-1) took the pitching loss for NNU.

The Crusaders will play twice on Saturday, facing GNAC leader Western Washington and Pacific West Conference member Chaminade University.
