Game One
Game Two
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Catherine Lowery's grand slam home run capped a seven-run sixth inning as Northwest Nazarene rallied from a 7-2 deficit to defeat 17th-ranked Western Washington 9-7 in the second game of a GNAC softball doubleheader Wednesday at Viking Field.
NNU's victory snapped a 12-game WWU winning streak, including a 9-0 victory in the opening game of the twinbill. Erika Quint pitched a one-hitter fanning seven in that contest. WWU's 12-game streak was one short of its school record.
Meghan Carrillo and Jackie Rothenberger combined for five RBI staking the Vikings (12-1, 7-1) to a 7-2 lead after five innings of the nightcap.
Carrillo singled for a run in the first, tripled to plate another in the second and had a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Rosenberg, meanwhile, had RBI singles in the first and fourth.
But in the sixth, NNU (2-7, 1-3) combined four hits, two walks and a costly error for its seven runs. The first run scored on an error.
Kristin Refsland then walked to force in a run and Chelsea Allsbrook singled to plate a third. Lowery then homered to left center to cap the big frame.
Nicole Grummons, who was the losing pitcher in the first game, pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and allowed just two hits and one run to get the win.
The Crusaders will return to Nampa and host doubleheaders against Montana State University Billings this Friday (2:00 p.m.) and Saturday (Noon) in a four-game GNAC set.
