NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team defeated the University of Alaska Fairbanks 70-58 tonight in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.
Overcoming a rough shooting performance in the first half (9 for 38, 23.7-percent), the Crusaders rebounded behind
Heather Adams to shoot 43.3-percent (13-30) in the second period and pull away with the home-court victory. Adams scored all of her game-high 16 in the second half, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor, including a 3-for-3 mark from the three-point line.
Beth Johnson posted a career-high 15 rebounds to help the Crusaders out-rebound the Nanooks 51 to 43. King grabbed seven and Garcia had five, while Johnson also added four points.
The Nanooks (1-18, 1-11 GNAC) were led by Nicole Bozek and Autumn Greene, who each scored 13, while Jessica Harrison had the game's only double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
As cold as the temperature outside, both teams struggled from the floor as UAF finished at 30.5-percent (18-59) and the Crusaders just better at 32.4-percent (22-68). The cold front moved outside as NNU was just 4-of-17 (23.5-percent) from the three-point line and the Nanooks 3-of-13 (23.1-percent) from the arc.
NNU used 17 steals to force 24 Nanook turnovers, as Johnson, Garcia, and
Alla Dzhidzhiyeshvili each had three take-aways.
The Crusaders will now host West Region #5 Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in a GNAC counter.
