Crusaders fall twice at Desert Stinger on Saturday

LAS VEGAS - The Northwest Nazarene softball team fell twice on Saturday at the 2011 Desert Stinger Invitational, suffering a 14-4 loss to Academy of Art University and a 4-2 setback against Notre Dame de Namur.

Academy of Art 14, Northwest Nazarene 4: Jayme Stewart homered and drove in four runs Elyse Cordova had a home run and three RBI to power the Urban Knights, who had 22 hits, past the Crusaders. Catcher Arielle Chao had two hits for the Crusaders. She also scored a run and drove in a run.

Notre Dame de Namur 4, Northwest Nazarene 2: Janae Reyes' sacrifice fly in the fourth snapped a 2-2 tie and Mary Ortega's fifth-inning home run provided insurance. Both teams scored twice in the first; the Crusaders on a single by Kristin Refsland and a sacrifice fly by Haley Hevern. Chelsey Anderson spun a five-hitter but was touched up for a pair of unearned runs in the opening inning.
